A trial run of the MRT will launch on Feb. 26, giving local residents their first shot at trying out the new train.

Heading from Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, the trial run will last until the MRT officially opens in March.

"During the trial run, the trains will operate normally but they are not yet ready to transport passengers commercially. We will launch a system in which there would be a registration process that can be done through [our] website," PT MRT Jakarta corporate secretary division head Muhamad Kamaludin said recently as quoted by kompas.com.

Those interested in using the MRT during the trial run will need to register in advance by giving their name, address and identity card number. Prospective passengers who fail to secure a spot on their preferred date remain eligible to register to use the MRT on a different day.

"The system is based on who signs up the fastest [...] In the beginning, the quota will be small but it will keep increasing as it approaches [the date of] the commercial launch," Kamaludin said.

As of Tuesday, the website for registration is not yet accessible to the public.

"The website cannot be accessed yet as it is still being perfected. For any information on when the website will be accessible, the public can be on the lookout by monitoring our social media pages," Kamaludin added. (mai)
