T

he Jambi Police have closed down 25 illegal oil wells in the Taman Hutan Raya forest conservation area in Batanghari district, Jambi, with the assistance of state-owned energy holding company Pertamina.

"The recent fire that gutted illegal oil wells in Batanghari district indicated that illegal drilling still continues in the area,” Pertamina EP Asset 1 spokesman Andrew said in Jambi on Monday as reported by Antara.

He said that Pertamina sealed the wells by using hollow rods to pour concrete down them.

The police also seized several items of evidence during its operation, including a motor, mini rig, tubes, pulley blocks and other equipment used at illegal wells.

Pertamina also expressed optimism that the authorities would take legal measures against the investors, distributors and middlemen involved in illegal oil drilling. (bbn)
