The Denpasar General Election Commission (KPU) in Bali incinerated 572 damaged ballots on Tuesday, one day before voting day.
The ballots were incinerated at the commission’s office and was witnessed by officials from the Denpasar Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and local police.
KPU Denpasar chairman I Wayan Arsa Jaya told journalists that all 572 ballots were incinerated to prevent misuse.
Arsa Jaya explained there were 464,132 eligible voters for the election in Denpasar. Based on regulations, the commission should prepare an additional 2 percent of the number of ballots of the final voter list. “So, we need 474,099 ballots,” Arsa Jaya said.
Arsa Jaya added that everything had been prepared for voting day. “All ballots have been distributed to the subdistricts and villages,” he added.
