Police claim their suspect, whom they accuse of killing his wife on April 10, felt offended by the victim repeatedly scorning him.
47-year-old man is accused of having strangled his wife to death during an argument in their house in the Grand Permata City housing complex in Bekasi, West Java, police said.
Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Candra Sukma Kumara claimed on Monday that the suspect, whom police accuse of killing his wife on April 10, felt offended when the victim repeatedly scorned him.
“The suspect was scorned a number of times so that he [allegedly] killed the victim -- probably because the victim, who was a trader, earned a bigger income than that of her husband, who doesn’t have a permanent job,” Candra said as quoted by kompas.com.
According to police, after allegedly killing his wife, the suspect placed the victim’s body in a bedroom and fled the scene. On April 12, a witness, who was a sibling of the victim and lived nearby, found the dead body in the house and reported it to the head of the local neighborhood unit, who then contacted the police.
On April 21, the suspect surrendered himself to the Serpong Police in South Tangerang, Banten, who informed Bekasi Police of the development.
“He surrendered because he felt haunted by the victim,” Candra claimed, adding that the suspect could be charged under Article 340 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on premeditated murder, which carries a sentence of 20 years' imprisonment upon conviction. (fac)
