T

he Indonesia Toll Road Authority (BPJT) has confirmed the toll road operator will increase the rates for the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport toll road or Sedyatmo toll road for cars before the Idul Fitri holiday that will fall in early June.

BPJT head Danang Parikesit said on Tuesday that state-owned toll operator PT Jasa Marga was carrying out a dissemination program.

“We are waiting for the report on the dissemination program. If Jasa Marga is confident on implementing its plan, we will allow it. Probably it will be implemented before lebaran,” Danang said as quoted by kompas.com.

Previously, Public Works and Housing Minster Basuki Hadimuljono had agreed with the rate increase through Ministerial Decree No. 121/KPTS/M/2019, issued last month.

Danang said after the dissemination activities were completed, the BPJT needed several days before approving the rate hike.

He said the process to execute the plan needed time because relevant parties had to consider a number of factors, including the fact that the toll road was not only used by airplane passengers but for other economic activities.

“The surrounding areas of the toll road have been developed and now have offices and shops. Cargo vehicles also pass through the toll road,” he added.

Under the ministerial decree, the rate for the Sedyatmo toll road will increase by Rp 500 (4 US cents) to Rp 7,500 for cars. Rates for commercial vehicles decreased with deduction rates depending on the type of vehicle. (bbn)
