Eleven homes and one food stall burned down in Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on early Thursday morning. As many as 82 firefighters and 19 fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the flames
“[The fire] razed an area of about 400 square meters,” East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency operational head Gatot Sulaeman told kompas.com on Thursday.
He added that losses could exceed Rp 1 billion (US$70,400). The agency is still investigating the causes of the fire.
A separate blaze destroyed one house in Duren Sawit on Wednesday, and other fires were reported in Cakung, Pasar Rebo and Pinang Ranti subdistricts the day before.
In North Jakarta, meanwhile, a fire destroyed one small house in Gelapa Gading on Wednesday. Five fire trucks were deployed to extinguish the flames. (das)
