hile on holiday in Puncak resort area in West Java, a family from East Jakarta was assaulted by local residents, who even attacked an elderly member of the family who was having a stroke.

The family was blocked on the road, pulled out of their car and beaten, reportedly by residents of Kampung Baru in Cisarua, Bogor regency on Saturday.

One of the victims, Raden Nurhadi, 30, said the incident had occurred while his family was looking for an alternative road to Villa Angkasa.

“The road is narrow and next to a ravine, suddenly a white Avanza honked loudly and cut us off,” Nurhadi told tempo.co on Sunday. The family retaliated by aggressively honking back.

The driver of the opposing car was revealed to be a local resident passing through the alternative road. Residents of the village stopped the car and encircled the family

“They forced my brother out of the car by pulling his shirt, more residents got involved, my father wanted to separate them but they pulled his cane and beat him instead,” Nurhadi said, adding that his father was suffering from stroke.

He estimated that they were attacked by around 10 people. The family was then helped by a local resident and escaped by car.

Nurhadi immediately reported the incident to the Cisarua Police, after checking for injuries at Dr. M. Goenawan Partowidigdo lung hospital.

Suffering from bruises and trauma after the assault, the family wants to take the incident to court and consider it a criminal act despite the urging of the police to mediate and make peace with the residents. (tru)
