Government misses Q1 foreign tourist target

Tourism Minister Arief Yahya said on Monday that the number of foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia between January and April was below the government's target. The minister referred to Statistics Indonesia’s (BPS) recent report on tourist arrivals in the first quarter this year.  According to BPS data, 5.12 million foreign tourists visited Indonesia from January to April this year, a monthly average of just 1.3 million. The government targeted to welcome 1.5 million foreign tourists a month. The 1.3 million tourists who visited Indonesia in April represented a 2.7 percent decrease compared to March. “The figure [1.3 million foreign tourists] is not a good result as our target is 1.5 million a month, with an overall target of 18 million by the end of this year,” he said on Monday.  To achieve the foreign tourist target by the end of the year, ...
