The police say that the perpetrator stabbed his victim because of jealousy.

olice have arrested a 21-year-old man for allegedly attacking his 20-year-old victim with a knife during a duel on Monday that occurred on Jl. Pisangan Baru II in Matraman subdistrict, East Jakarta.

The suspect, Alfian, a resident of Jatinegara district, East Jakarta, reportedly challenged Kemal Irwanto to the duel for flirting with his girlfriend.

“[Alfian] became jealous and angry because the victim frequently flirted with his girlfriend. That’s why he stabbed [Kemal],” said East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Ady Wibowo, as quoted by kompas.com on Tuesday.

Ady said the incident occurred when Alfian and Kemal met on Jl. Pisangan Baru II, and Alfian grabbed Kemal's shirt and stabbed him with a knife in the thigh.

Kemal fell to the ground and Alfian fled the location. Local residents helped Kemal get to a nearby hospital, where he received two stitches to close the knife wound.

When police arrived at the hospital, Kemal told identified Alfian as his attacker, after which the officers arrested Alfian at his residence in Jatinegara.

The suspect has admitted to his wrongdoing during the police interrogation. (das)
