ion Air Group is planning to move 26 daily flights from Husein Sastranegara International Airport in the West Java provincial capital of Bandung to Kertajati International Airport in the province's Majalengka, starting July 1.

Lion Air will operate seven check-in counters – No. 1 through No. 7 – at Kertajati airport, said Lion Air spokesman Danang Mandala Prihantoro in a press statement on Monday.

The 26 flights serve 10 domestic routes from Kertajati to Kualanamu airport in Medan; Sultan Syarif Kasim II airport in Pekanbaru; Hang Nadim airport in Batam, Riau Islands; Juanda airport in Surabaya; I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali; Zainuddin Abdul Majid airport in Lombok; Supadio airport in Pontianak; Syamsudin Noor airport in Banjarmasin; Sepinggan airport in Balikpapan; and Sultan Hasanuddin airport in Makassar.

For the 10 domestic routes, Lion Air Group, comprising Lion Air, Wings Air and Batik Air, will operate new aircraft like the Boeing 737-900ER, which has 215 economy class seats, and the Boeing 737-800NG, which has 189 economy class seats, Danang said.

The relocation of flights from Husein Sastranegara airport to Kertajati airport was decided in early May during a meeting attended by representatives of state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), PT Bandarudara Internasional Jawa Barat (BIJB) and other parties, as facilitated by the Transportation Ministry.

BIJB director Muhammad Singgih said during the meeting it was agreed that Husein Sastranegara airport would still serve flights from Bandung to airports in Java and Lampung, Sumatra, as well as international flights to Malaysia and Singapore. (bbn)
