Police dismissed the suspects’ claim of consensual sexual relations between them and the three students since the victims had confessed that each of them was not in a relationship with the suspects.
hree teachers of a state junior high school in Serang regency, Banten were recently arrested for allegedly sexually abusing three of their students, one of them is now 21 weeks pregnant.
The Serang Police, which is investigating the case, said the alleged abuse began following intensive communications between the three suspects (identified as DA, AS and OM) and three students since November 2018. Junior high school students in Indonesia are typically age between 12 and 15 years old.
One of the suspects, DA, a social science teacher claimed that he had been “dating” Ayu (not her real name), while AS and OM, who taught counseling and art at the school, claimed to have been “dating” Citra and Erna (also not their real names) respectively.
However, the police dismissed the suspects’ claims of consensual sexual relations, since the victims had confessed that each of them was not in a relationship with the suspects. According to Indonesian law, including the Child Protection Law, a sexual relation with an underage person is classified as a "sexual crime".
“It was not consensual. They [victims] were just seduced by the suspects with gifts and sweet promises,” Serang police criminal investigation department head, Adj. Comr. David Chandra told The Jakarta Post over the phone on Monday.
The police also found that the suspects sexually abused the victims in the school’s computer laboratory, in class, and at one of the suspects’ rented house. The sexual abuses have led to the pregnancy of Erna, who told the police that she had been pregnant since January 2019.
The case arose after Erna’s parents filed a report to the police on June 11, followed by the parents of the two other victims on June 17. The suspects were arrested at each of their houses in Cikeusal district on June 18.
