The project is intended to create an integrated place for vehicles to drop-off and pick-up passengers.
The Lebak Bulus MRT station in South Jakarta will be equipped with a transit plaza for pick-ups and drop-offs.
PT MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said the plaza would be constructed on a 1,500-meter square area next to the Poins Square mall and apartment complex. A pedestrian bridge will also be built to connect the MRT station to Poins Square.
The pedestrian bridge is expected to be completed within five to six months.
“The project is intended to create an integrated place for vehicles to drop-off and pick-up passengers without crowding the roadside near the MRT entrance,” William said on Wednesday as quoted by tempo.co.
William also said that a designated place would be provided for ojek (motorcycle taxis) in front of Nehemia Church near the Lebak Bulus fire station.
"We will designate which area is for ojek and which areas are for cars and motorcycles,” he said.
The first phase of the MRT project spans 15.7 kilometers and includes 13 stations.
MRT Jakarta is currently preparing the second phase of the line, which will run from the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta to Kota Tua in West Jakarta. (eyc)
