he number of passengers in the free public trial run of the Light Rapid Transit (LRT) has increased tenfold in comparison to 2018’s test, an executive has said.

“In last year’s trial run the number of passengers was not so high. Last year it was 11,070 passengers, but it has now reached more than 146,000 passengers,” said PT LRT Jakarta spokesperson Santy Pradayini as quoted by Antara news agency on Wednesday.

Santy said the number would continue to increase because the free trial run was still under way.

She believed that the increased public enthusiasm was a result of passengers now being able to use tap machines and enter the LRT through all station doors.

The third LRT public trial run has been under way since June 11 and was initially planned to end on June 21 but it has been extended.

“Inculcating a culture of public transportation through this test run is necessary so that when official operations begin, passengers will use and take care of the facilities provided by the government,” said Santy. (tru)
