The regulations on motorcycle safety and minimum fares for ride-hailing services aim to ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers as well as better pay for drivers.
After a two-month trial in five cities, since July 1 the government has expanded the implementation of the ride-hailing service regulations to 41 cities across the country.
The regulations on motorcycle safety and minimum fares for ride-hailing services aim to ensure the safety of both drivers and passengers as well as better pay for drivers.
“Since July 1 we have broadened the implementation of Ministerial Regulation No.12/2019 and Ministerial Decree No. 348 to 41 cities from the initial five. We have asked two ride-hailing service providers, Go-Jek and Grab, to adhere to the regulations in the new cities,” the ministry's land transportation director Budi Setiyadi told a press conference on Friday.
He said among the cities affected by the regulations were Banda Aceh (Aceh), Medan (North Sumatra), Batam, Pekanbaru (Riau), Palembang (South Sumatra), Pontianak (West Kalimantan), Palangkaraya (Central Kalimantan), Samarinda, Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan), Kupang (East Nusa Tenggara), Manado (North Sulawesi), Gorontalo and Jayapura (Papua).
He added the implementation of the regulations in the new cities would be evaluated after a month and would be monitored by the Land Transportation Management Agency (BPTD) in each city.
