o:p>The daily commute in packed trains at rush hour is undeniably tiring, but it could also leave a tormenting memory for passengers who have to deal with sexual harassment, which might happen to any one of us.
PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) as the operator of commuter trains, the most popular mode of public transportation in Greater Jakarta serving 1.1 million passengers daily, recorded 34 cases of sexual harassment inside commuter line trains and stations in 2018.
Only 15 of the victims–all female--were willing to file police reports, but all the reported cases ended in out-of-court settlement.
In 2017, only 25 cases of sexual violence were recorded, and none of the victims were willing to report them to police.
All of the molesters were reportedly male and between 31 and 40 years old.
The victims ranged in age from 19 to 30 years.
The firm also recorded the routes with the highest number of cases, led by the Bogor–Jatinegara route, the Bogor–Jakarta Kota route, the Cikarang–Jakarta Kota route and the Rangkasbitung–Tanah Abang route, indicates an even distribution of cases across regions, KCI spokeswoman Anne Purba told The Jakarta Post recently.
