Delwyn Berli Juliandro, 14, died on Saturday during a 4-kilometer walk at the end of the week-long orientation program.
Palembang Police Crime Unit chief Comr. Yon Edi Winara said several witnesses had been interrogated in connection to the incident, including the school’s headmaster and several senior students.
From the interrogation, it became known that Delwyn had passed out at around 4 a.m. during the walk and had gone into convulsions before being rushed to Myria Palembang Hospital, where he died.
His body was then was transferred to Bhayangkara Hospital for an autopsy. According to a police report, Delwyn had a bruise on his left knee.
“We have not found the cause of his seizure,” Yon said.
Palembang Mayor Harnojoyo regretted the death and called for all educational institutions to put a stop to violence during student orientation.
