State-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II aims to develop its business through inorganic growth and revenue from noncore activities.

Angkasa Pura II president director Muhammad Awaluddin said it was very important for the company not to focus only on its core business -- managing airports --, where revenue growth was highly dependent on passenger numbers and service fees.

“Airport operators must be able to take advantage of the potential of every line of business, not just rely on [the core] business, which is airport management. If we only use the old way in doing business, we will not achieve accelerated growth but only natural growth,” he said during an interview with The Jakarta Post at an Angkasa Pura II office on Saturday.

He said the company was moving full steam ahead in developing outside the aero business, such as in the property sector by building a property portfolio on its land assets.

At Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Tangerang, for example, the state-owned enterprise was constructing two hotels near Terminal 3, one in the international area and the other in the domestic area. Angkasa Pura II already has a capsule hotel inside the terminal.

Awaluddin said the property in the international area, a four-star hotel, was almost complete and was expected to be opened by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the new hotel in the domestic area – a three-star property with 150 rooms – was to be completed in 2020.
