Bukalapak, Kresna and Kadin have signed an MoU with the World Logistics Council (WLC) to help Indonesian micro, small and medium enterprises connect to the global supply chain.
Homegrown e-marketplace Bukalapak, finance company Kresna Graha Investama and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) signed on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Ireland's semi-governmental World Logistics Council (WLC) to use the organization's digital economy platform, the Multi-Dimensional Digital Economy Application System (MDDEAS).
Representatives of Bukalapak, Kresna and Kadin said the platform was expected to help Indonesia connect local businesses to foreign partners and expand into global markets.
The WLC says that MDDEAS offers “thousands” of on-demand applications that enable businesses to synchronize their logistics, insurance, financial and commerce systems with other businesses worldwide to establish a “21st-century efficiency level”.
“Why is this [MoU] important?” Kadin logistics and supply chain vice chairman Rico Rustombi said during the signing ceremony. “It’s important for Indonesian companies to enter the global supply chain. It’s also important for Indonesian companies to export more than [they] import. And it is important to do all that in a new digital format.”
Rico added that the MoU aligned with the efforts of the Office of the Coordinating Economic Minister, which was drafting a new e-commerce roadmap for transforming Indonesia into a Southeast Asian digital hub by 2020.
Bima Laga, the Bukalapak associate vice president of public policy and government relations, said that the company “hoped the MoU would help expand its [global] delivery chains outside of the five countries”, referring to the first five foreign markets since May to be given access to Bukalapak.
