Prior to his arrest, the suspect, who reportedly owned a car rental service, had allegedly uploaded multiple negative posts about Susi on social media, the content of which could be considered defamation, the police said.
iamis Police and Pangandaran Police in West Java have arrested a man they accuse of causing damage to a security post at the residence of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Susi Pudjiastuti on Jl. Merdeka in Pangandaran.
The suspect, identified as A, was arrested less than 24 hours after he allegedly threw stones at the minister's property on Friday, Ciamis Police chief Sr. Adj. Comr. Bismo Teguh Prakoso said.
Bismo accused A of having committed the crime three times, on July 7, July 13 and Aug. 2.
“The first [stone thrown] broke the glass of the security post [window]. On the second attempt [the glass] did not break, but the third [stone] broke the glass,” Bismo said on Sunday as quoted by kompas.com.
Prior to his arrest, the suspect, who reportedly owned a car rental service, had allegedly uploaded multiple negative posts about Susi on social media, the content of which could be considered defamation, the police said.
The Ciamis Police crime unit had asked a linguistics expert to examine A’s posts. The expert concluded the posts were intentionally uploaded and intended to defame the minister.
The police, however, have yet to take the alleged defamation into account and only charged the suspect under Article 406 of the Criminal Law on vandalism, which carries a possible sentence of two years and eight months in prison upon conviction.
Bismo allege that the suspect not only threw stones at the minister’s house, but also at his own neighbor’s house at least four times. A’s family had reportedly admonished him about his actions, but the suspect ignored them, Bismo claimed. (sau/afr)
