he Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has opened a new chapter in its investigation into the e-ID corruption case with the naming four new suspects, including former lawmaker Miryam S. Haryani.
A former Hanura Party politician, Miryam was convicted for perjury and providing false testimony to the KPK in the e-ID case. She is currently serving a five-year prison sentence.
She was leveled with a second charge on Tuesday, with KPK deputy chief Saut Situmorang revealing that she is suspected of accepting a bribe from the e-ID procurement project, which incurred Rp 2.3 trillion (US$160 million) in state losses.
According to the KPK, Miryam allegedly accepted $100,000 from Home Ministry official Irman after a hearing between the House Commission II overseeing home affairs and Home Ministry.
She reportedly asked Irman for the money to be used during the commission’s work visit to a number of regions.
Irman and fellow ministry official Sugiharto were found guilty in 2017 for their roles in the e-ID graft case and each is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence.
“MSH [Miryam] also asked for money from Irman, who at that time was serving as the ministry’s director general for civil registration, using the term uang jajan [pocket money],” Saut told a press briefing.
