President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and his Cabinet look set to receive brand new sets of wheels, with a budget of more than Rp 147 billion (US$10.4 million) earmarked for the purchase of new government cars for high-level officials. Jokowi will begin his second term in October and will travel in a Mercedes Benz S 600 Guard while his ministers will each be driven in Toyota Crown 2.5 HV G-Executives. State Secretariat spokesman Eddy Cahyono Sugiarto said the cars currently used by Indonesia’s highest officials had been in use for more than 10 years. “The official cars used by VVIPs such as the President, ministers, ministry level officials, state institution heads, former presidents and former vice presidents, have been in use for more than 10 years.
