omplaints about the stench of urine along the Lebak Bulus MRT Station pedestrian walkway has led authorities to deploy security staff to the site.

PT MRT Jakarta president director William Sabandar said the company would coordinate with the South Jakarta Police to guard the area and it deployed janitors to clean it up after receiving the complaints.

“We have also been coordinating with the Jakarta Transportation Agency, the Public Order Agency [Satpol PP], as well as the South Jakarta Police to ensure the cleanliness of the walkway,” William said on Wednesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

He guaranteed that safeguards would be put strictly in place as the officers would monitor the location 24 hours a day.

“Hopefully, it will not happen again. We really expect public awareness and responsibility to maintain the cleanliness, security and comfort of the areas around MRT stations,” he said.

Previously, the South Jakarta Fire Department and the South Jakarta Transportation Agency hosed down the walkway after receiving complaints about the strong smell. (syk)
