Soekarno-Hatta executive general manager Agus Haryadi said the feature was long overdue.
oekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, has shown its openness to embracing more ride-hailing services in its area after years of resistance in the form of stringent regulations and restrictions that forced passengers and drivers to play cat-and-mouse with the official taxis operating at the airport.
Homegrown unicorn Gojek – in collaboration with state-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) – has officially unveiled GoCar Instan, an alternative means of transportation specific to the Soekarno-Hatta airport.
“We thank Angkasa Pura II for the warm welcome, as well as its willingness to adopt a technology that improves the mobility of airport customers,” Gojek co-founder Kevin Aluwi said in a statement on Tuesday.
Previously, AP II granted limited access for ride-hailing services at Soekarno-Hatta airport, allowing drivers to just pick passengers up from all terminals. The airport operator previously stipulated that only vehicles registered with the Police Cooperative (Inkoppol) and those of taxi companies with certain stickers were allowed to fully operate in its area.
Last year, Grab officially provided official pick-up points for passengers at the airport as a result of its cooperation with AP II.
Kevin said the service provided by Gojek would allow for shorter waiting time before pick-up at the arrival areas, therefore reducing traffic congestion around the airport.
GoCar Instan is an on-the-spot ride-hailing feature equipped with a vehicle queue management system, which allows customers to find their rides more quickly without clogging up the traffic around the arrival terminals. For GoCar drivers, the new feature enables them to meet their passengers seamlessly.
