Indonesian state-owned enterprises are seeking to get in on the Jakarta-Surabaya railway project as they may be prioritized based on the local content agreement between the governments of Japan and Indonesia.
One of the SOEs hoping for business opportunities is construction firm PT Waskita Karya, which has expressed interest in railway projects over the past few years.
“Of course, we are interested in participating in the project, since we have experience in railway construction. We are absolutely heading there [to be involved in the project],” Waskita Karya operation director II Bambang Rianto said on Thursday.
He said Waskita Karya could contribute to the construction of infrastructure for the semi-high-speed railway project, such as the railway tracks or track bed.
Bambang said there were informal talks regarding Waskita’s possible role in the project.
Train manufacturer PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA), the country’s sole train manufacturer, also expressed hope to participate in the highly anticipated railway project, specifically in the procurement of rolling stock.
