o encourage more people to use the LRT line in Palembang, South Sumatra, its speed has been increased and its integration with other modes of public transportation improved.
Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi expressed hope the improvements would lead to an increase in the number of people using the LRT for their daily commutes.
“We hope the passenger load factor will increase to 60 percent, about double the current level,” Budi said during a visit to Palembang to test the speed of the LRT over the weekend.

The train headway has also been cut from 30 minutes to 18 minutes, while the length of each stop has been reduced from 30 seconds to 20 seconds.
This has also seen the number of trips increase from 58 trips per day to 78 trips. The operational hours are from 5:24 a.m. until 8:25 p.m.
To help realize the load factor target, connections between different modes of transportation have also been improved. This year, Palembang has received 10 new buses for its Transmusi bus rapid transit (BRT) system from the Transportation Ministry, which will operate on feeder routes for the LRT.
