The survey asked respondents to rate their satisfaction levels in eight fields, including infrastructure, bureaucratic reform and happiness.
survey held approximately one month before the second anniversary of Anies Baswedan’s governorship on Oct. 16, 2019, has revealed that 82 percent of respondents said they were satisfied with Anies, although 28.3 percent of respondents said that corruption and illegal fees were still rampant within the administration.
The Center for Social, Political, Economic and Law Studies (CESPELS) conducted the survey, which involved 1,012 Jakarta residents across the capital’s five municipalities and one regency from Sept. 9 to 13. The respondents were asked to rate their level of satisfaction in eight indicators: social environment, infrastructure, corruption, bureaucracy, poverty, leadership, happiness and fulfillment of campaign promises.
“We ourselves were surprised by our findings, but we are presenting them as they are,” CESPELS executive director Ubedillah said on Monday, when the institution released its survey findings.
CESPELS found that 48.1 percent of respondents were satisfied with Jakarta’s social environment – public security, sanitation and order – under the Anies administration.
In infrastructure, 39.4 percent of respondents said they were satisfied. However, it could not be ascertained whether their satisfaction applied to infrastructure projects that started years ago and were completed under Anies’tenure, or only to infrastructure projects that started during his administration.
As for corruption, 28.3 percent of respondents said illegal fees and bribery were still widespread. Central and South Jakarta were the top two municipalities with the largest number of respondents indicating their dissatisfaction with Anies' anticorruption efforts.
In the bureaucracy indicator, 31.4 percent of respondents in Thousands Islands regency gave negative responses.
