Joint commands to boost TNI's cohesiveness as it observes 74th anniversary

Ahead of its 74th anniversary on Saturday, the Indonesian Military (TNI) has taken what experts say is a big step toward addressing many of its current problems by forming three Joint Defense Area Commands (Kogabwilhan). It is hoped the three commands — based in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands; Balikpapan, East Kalimantan; and Biak, Papua  — will help modernize and improve interbranch coordination, as well as help solve the problem of high-ranking officer overstaffing that has plagued the TNI.
