Flooding also inundated Kota Lama subdistrict, Kasang Padang village in Bonai Darusalam district and Tangun in Bangun Purba district.
Persistent downpours for the last few days have inundated a number of villages in four districts in Rokan Hulu regency, Riau.
The worst hit area was Pasir Pangaraian, the administrative seat of Rokan Hulu, where hundreds of houses were submerged in floodwater up to a meter deep, cutting off a main road, Jl. Tuanku Tambusai, which is also part of the Trans Sumatra highway.
"The Rokan Hulu Police were forced to redirect the traffic to the Pasir Pangaraian outer ring road," the regency disaster mitigation agency (BPBD Rokan Hulu) head, Zulkifli Said, told reporters on Tuesday, adding that the BPBD and Social Affairs Agency had deployed two boats to transport people to cross the flood.
He said the water surface continued to increase due to the floodwater from Bangun Purba district, where the water had started to subside.
He called on people living along the banks of the Batang Lubuh River to increase caution because rainfall was still high presently.
"If the water has increased like this, just leave as soon as possible. Don't wait for the BPBD to help," he said.
He added that his office and the regency’s social affairs agency were busy evacuating affected people in areas affected by the floods.
