family of seven is seeking higher compensation from a company responsible for a construction project that has blocked access to the family’s house.
The project, built on land owned by PT Hengtraco Protecsindo, has cut off access to the house owned by Lie Yun Bun, or Ko Ayun, with the family having to pass through the construction site to reach the street.
The company is allegedly violating several regulations by blocking access to the house.
The Jakarta Post visited the site on Monday and talked with Ko Ayun’s son-in-law Johanes, 36, who claimed the company would not provide street access to the house.
“In terms of consulting with us, all they said was that they would build [on the neighboring land]. They also said ‘If you want to sell, I will make you an offer for your house’. [From the beginning], they were not going to provide access,” he told the Post.
Johanes lives in the house in South Mangga Dua subdistrict, Central Jakarta, with his wife, three children and parents-in-law.
Ko Ayun, 50, had left for work when the Post arrived at the site.
