orruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan was summoned by the National Police for questioning on Monday, a week after the police publicly announced the two people suspected of attacking him with acid.
While the police looked to see the acid attack against Novel as a common criminal case, Novel’s lawyers maintained their belief that the attack was related to Novel’s position as a senior investigator at the KPK.
Novel went to the Jakarta Police headquarters in South Jakarta at 10:20 a.m. on Monday.
“I am convinced this [acid attack] has nothing to do with personal affairs. I did not know them [the suspects] and have never met them before. It is illogical to say this [acid attack] is to do with personal affairs,” Novel told reporters after the questioning, which lasted for around nine hours.
Novel said he was ready if the police wanted him to meet with both suspects as part of the investigation.
He added that the investigation into the case should involve the establishment of a new fact-finding team that is independent and accountable.
“This is not the first time I have given information to the police, as I was questioned by the police when I had medical treatment in Singapore and also last June. I answered every question from the police,” Novel said.
