ight people are confirmed dead while dozens others injured following an accident involving a tour bus in Subang regency, West Java, on Saturday.
The bus, which departed for Depok from Mount Tangkuban Parahu Natural Tourism Park, overturned while on a steep slope in Cisaat village, Ciater district, at 5 p.m., according to police.
“We’re still trying to identify the victims, who have all been taken to Ciereng General Hospital,” Subang Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Teddy Fanani told The Jakarta Post on the phone.
According to tribunnews.com, 10 people were severely injured in the accident, while 20 others sustained minor injuries.
The police are investigating the cause of the accident, Teddy said.
“We’re looking into whether the brakes were functioning properly. The brakes on the right side of the bus didn’t seem to work,” he said.
In amateur video recordings that have circulated on social media, the bus apparently flipped over to its left side on the side of a road. Police officers and locals could be seen climbing over to the right side of the bus to gain access to the vehicle and recover victims. (rfa)
