Activists demand Yasonna be held accountable for false information regarding Harun's whereabouts

Dadang Trisasongko, the secretary-general of Transparency International Indonesia (TII), said Ronny’s removal was very odd considering that Yasonna had chosen to embroil himself in the scandal, not Ronny.

ntigraft activists have slammed Law and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly for removing immigration director general Ronny F. Sompie from his post after the latter issued false information regarding the whereabouts of Harun Masiku, an Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) politician who has been named a bribery suspect.

The activists claim Ronny was a scapegoat and that Yasonna should be held accountable.

Harun is still at large and has been declared a fugitive by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

On Tuesday, Yasonna said he had removed Ronny and the immigration office’s information and technology director Alif Suaidi from their positions. The minister stated both officials were irresponsible for handling the immigration information system that had failed to detect Harun.

Yasonna has assigned Jhoni Ginting, the immigration general inspector, to take over Ronny’s post.

“It’s not fair if he [Yasonna] puts the blame on the immigration director general alone for failing to provide accurate information regarding Harun. Yasonna should also be held accountable for the controversy because immigration is under his supervision,” Kurnia Ramadhana of the antigraft watchdog, Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW), told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.

“We can only hope the President will also dismiss him from his post as a minister,” he said, referring to Yasonna who is also a PDI-P politician.
