civil servant working for the Papua administration has been accused of committing sexual violence against a female student while in Jakarta last month.
The case emerged when the mother of the victim, a student of a senior high school in Jakarta, filed a report with the South Jakarta Police on Jan. 29.
In her report, the mother said that the alleged perpetrator, identified only by the initials AG, a top official in Papua administration, invited her daughter to a hotel room in Jakarta where the man was staying on Jan. 28 and allegedly drugged the victim before raping her, Piter Ell, a lawyer for the victim's family, said.
The student’s medical examination report and school uniform were also filed as evidence, according to Piter.
"There was a threat against the family, especially the victim herself," he said.
"[...] The parents had consultated with the police officers before they decided to report the incident as a rape case. This wasn't without evidence." he added.
Stefanus Roy Renin, a lawyer representing the man, has denied the accusations, saying that they were all fabricated.
