ublicly-listed tin miner PT Timah Tbk appointed on Monday a retired marine general, a former intelligence officer and a former Bangka Belitung governor as new commissioners to oversee the company’s business activities.
Retired general Alfan Baharudin, former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) officer Satriya Hari Prasetya and former governor of Bangka Belitung province Rustam Effendi were appointed as president commissioner, independent commissioner and commissioner for the state-owned company, respectively, during a shareholders meeting in Jakarta.
“This is part of our effort to freshen up and accelerate the company's operations with big challenges ahead,” said Timah president director Mochtar Riza Pahlevi Tabrani after the meeting.
Timah has several major projects in the pipeline including the construction of an US$80 million smelter in Bangka Belitung and exploring mineral reserves in Nigeria and Tanzania.
Global tin prices have been slumping since late January, with the price of the commodity on the London Metal Exchange recorded at $16,275 per ton on Feb. 7, down 8.4 percent from Jan. 20.
At Monday's meeting, shareholders, also appointed a new finance director, Wibisono, and a new operation and production director, Agung Pratama. They replaced Emil Ermindra and Alwin Albar, respectively. Agung “has experience in offshore mining and onshore mining,” Mochtar noted.
