Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono has alleged that certain people both in and out of government have been orchestrating an attempt to replace the party’s leadership and use the party as a vehicle for a presidential bid in the 2024 election. The party’s branch executive board (DPC) reported to the central board recently that they had been approached by current and former high-ranking members who were trying to convince them to oust Agus. DPC members have the power to elect the party’s chairman in a national congress. Agus said the alleged conspirators aimed to obtain 360 votes from DPC members to trigger an extraordinary congress to replace the leadership of the party.
