T

he government has eased provisions for restaurants, shopping malls and some industries to operate with longer hours and higher capacity as the daily COVID-19 reports point to a falling number of cases.

Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan told reporters on Monday that shopping malls were allowed to operate until 9 p.m., an hour longer than under the previous coronavirus curbs.

Restaurants inside malls may now accommodate dine-in guests up to 50 percent of their capacity at any given time, up from a quarter of their capacity before.

In a trial run for restaurants outside of malls, meanwhile, around 1,000 outlets with enclosed space will reopen at 25 percent of their capacity in Surabaya, Jakarta, Bandung and Semarang. Previously, only food vendors in open spaces were allowed to open and dining-in was limited to 20 minutes.

Factories and industries, whether categorized as essential businesses or not, are now allowed to operate at full capacity, but the workforce must be divided into two shifts of 50 percent each. Previously, only critical sectors or export-oriented industries in areas up to level 3 under the four-tier risk classification and were allowed to do so.

Also, employees must use the Peduli-Lindungi app, which shows the user’s vaccination status and helps with tracing coronavirus cases.

“As the COVID-19 situation is getting better, and with the implementation of health protocols and the use of the Peduli-Lindungi [app], there are some adjustments to community activities that can be done,” Luhut said during an online press conference.
