The government has yet to finalize the quarantine duration for foreign tourists looking to visit Bali – just days before the island wants to reopen.
The government has yet to make a final decision on the quarantine period for foreign tourists seeking to vacation in Bali, just days before the island reopens on Oct. 14.
“The proposed quarantine duration is five days, but this is not a final decision,” Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said during a press briefing on Monday.
He added that the decision to shorten the quarantine period was based on the SARS-CoV-2 incubation period of 3.7 to 3.8 days, which meant symptoms of COVID-19 would manifest within four days of infection with the virus.
However, the World Health Organization stated it would take five to 14 days for symptoms of the virus to show.
On Thursday, Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartanto told the media that the government had cut the quarantine for people entering Indonesia from eight days to five days. He added, however, that the government had not decided on a date for implementing the change.
“This decision has to be made together with the National Disaster Mitigation Agency [BNPN], the Home Ministry and the Transportation Ministry,” he said, as reported by Tribunnews.
