G

raft convict and former fugitive Djoko Soegiarto Tjandra claims he was able to return to Indonesia and travel within the country without detection by bribing two high-ranking police officials.

The National Police revealed on Monday that Djoko had admitted to paying off Brig. Gen. Prasetyo Utomo and Insp. Gen. Napoleon Bonaparte.

“[Djoko] admitted to giving a certain amount of money to the officials,” National Police spokesman Brig. Gen. Awi Setiyono Awi said as quoted by tempo.co.

He declined to provide further details as the investigation is ongoing.

“[We] examined when, where and to whom this money was given. We cannot reveal everything we’ve discovered so far, especially regarding the amount, because the [investigation] is still underway.”

Earlier this month, the National Police named both Prasetyo and Napoleon suspects for allegedly accepting bribes in return for assisting Djoko.

Napoleon was previously removed from his post as the National Police’s head of international relations unit for his alleged involvement in removing Djoko’s red notice status, allowing the graft convict to freely enter the country despite being on the most-wanted list since 2009.
