Restrictions in parts of Greater Jakarta extended

est Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has decided to extend the proportional large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) for Greater Bogor, Depok and Greater Bekasi (Bodebek) for a month.
The extension is outlined in Gubernatorial Decree No. 443/2020, which stipulates that the extension of the proportional PSBB in Bodebek will last until Nov. 25.
"The Bogor regent, Bogor mayor, Depok mayor, Bekasi mayor and Bekasi regent are implementing the PSBB proportionally on a micro scale according to the level of vigilance of each region," Emil wrote in the decree signed Monday.
The decision was made after Ridwan received a recommendation from the West Java COVID-19 task force saying there was no indication that the rate of COVID-19 infection was slowing down.
"People who live or reside and/or carry out activities in the Bodebek area are required to comply with the provisions of the proportional PSBB and consistently implement the health protocols," he said as quoted by kompas.com on Monday.
Of the five Bodebek areas, Depok city is the region with the highest number of COVID-19 cases with a total of 6,858 patients.
Depok is now also classified as a red zone after the national COVID-19 task force upgraded its status as a region with a high risk of COVID-19 transmission.
Therefore, the Depok administration will continue to impose a curfew for residents and business activities.
With the curfew, residents’ activities cannot continue past 9 p.m., while businesses are allowed to stay open until 8 p.m.
"Dine-ins at restaurants and food stalls will only be allowed until 6 p.m., while take away service is until 9:00 p.m.," said Depok city COVID-19 task force spokesperson, Dadang Wihana.
A total of 1,333 patients are still under treatment in Depok, 81 percent of whom are self-isolating at home while 19 percent are being treated in hospital.
On Sunday, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan announced the extension of the transitional PSBB in Jakarta until Nov. 8.
"It is in accordance with Gubernatorial Decree No. 1020/2020. If there is an alarming level of transmission, we can reimpose stricter restrictions," he said Sunday as quoted by beritajakarta.co.id.
He explained that the COVID-19 transmission curve in the last two weeks had started to flatten, as indicated by the decreasing isolation bed occupancy rate.
The rate was 64 percent on Oct. 12 before decreasing to 59 percent on Oct. 24. For ICU beds, the occupancy rate decreased from 68 percent on Oct. 12 to 62 percent on Oct. 24.
As of Monday, COVID-19 cases in the capital had reached 101,897 with 2,185 fatalities. (iwa)
