he National Police’s Densus 88 antiterror squad shot dead two suspected terrorists resisting arrest in Biringkanaya district, Makassar, South Sulawesi on Wednesday morning.
The arrest also involved personnel from the Makassar Police and South Sulawesi Police bomb squad.
Makassar Police chief Sr. Comr. Witnu Urip Laksana said the two suspected terrorists, identified as R and AJ, were believed to be members of the terror network Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
“[The police] took decisive action [and shot] the two suspects who were resisting arrest,” Witnu said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.
He said officers were still conducting a crime scene investigation at the location of the shooting. The police will also patrol nearby areas to anticipate further incidents.
He said the police had found indications that the two suspects were connected to the twin bombings of a church on Jolo Island in the Philippines in early 2019.
“According to our investigation of these two suspects, they were members of the South Sulawesi JAD network and had connections with the bombing in Jolo, the Philippines,” Witnu said.
