ndonesian tennis player Christopher Rungkat bagged a men's singles gold medal after defeating Thai player Jirat Navasirisomboon 6-4, 6-4 at the 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Christopher, world’s no. 487, praised Jirat as a one of the toughest opponents he has ever played.

“Jirat is excellent player but I can beat him,” he said.

Christopher earlier defeated Thai player Wishara Trongcharoenchaikul in the semifinals in rubber sets of 6-3, 5-7 and 7-6. Christopher said his confidence was boosted after defeating Wishara.

“I somehow knew that I could beat Jirat in the final match,” he told tribunnews.com.

Christopher said reaching the final was a dream come true. In 2011, Christopher won three gold medals when Indonesia hosted the Games.
