hree individuals were ordered by the Magistrate’s Court on Monday to settle fines, including close to half-a-million-dollar in one case, for violating the Customs and Excise Order.
Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati Abdul Hamid ordered 40-year-old Indonesian Sutrisno to pay a fine of BND430,600 (US$386,916), or serve three years’ jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to possessing 539 cartons of cigarettes at Pantai Serasa at 12:31 a.m. on May 4, 2018.
Bruneian Norazmi Osman was ordered to pay a fine of BND51,200, or serve 33 months’ jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to possessing eight cartons of cigarettes at 3:40 p.m. on July 7, 2011; 27 cartons of cigarettes at 11:20 p.m. on March 15, 2012; 41 cartons of cigarettes, 17 cans of beer and two bottles of liquor at 6:02 a.m. on June 7, 2012; and 63 cartons of cigarettes, 17 cans of beer at 9:40 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2012, at the Kuala Lurah Control Post.
Meanwhile, 58-year-old local Padan bin Barauk was ordered to settle a fine of BND300, or serve three weeks’ jail in default of payment, after he pleaded guilty to possessing two bottles of liquor and 15 cans of beer at a house in Kampong Terunjing Baru, Lambak Kiri at 12:35 a.m. on Sept. 7, 2014.
