fter two years away from the cage, Angela Lee made an incredible comeback last month by successfully defending her ONE women’s atomweight world title against fan favorite Stamp Fairtex at ONE X.
“Unstoppable” submitted the first-ranked contender in the second round via her signature move rear-naked choke that places her name as one of the most dominant champions in ONE Championship.
While another atomweight title defense is imminent, the 25-year-old is looking to build a bigger legacy by attempting to capture a second belt in ONE.
She is eyeing a trilogy bout against ONE women’s strawweight world champion Xiong Jing Nan, whom she has faced twice, to settle the score.
“I definitely want to capture the strawweight belt, so I’d love to fight Xiong again and step up to strawweight and try to capture that champ-champ status,” Lee said.
“Also, there’s a lot of atomweights in the division now, so I’d love to keep defending my title, but I’d like to see the strawweight division grow, just like the atomweight division has grown,” she added.
Lee and Xiong have already split a pair of world title fights, with both athletes earning dramatic fifth-round finishes.
In March 2019, Xiong retained her strawweight belt with a technical knockout (TKO) win over Lee. In their rematch later that year, Lee submitted the Chinese star via rear-naked choke to keep her atomweight gold.
“I think that I have grown a lot more in these past few years and made a lot more improvements than she has, and I think it can show in our performances. So definitely, when we match up again, it’s going to be a different story, and I think everyone is eager to see it,” Lee said.
