The American star faces off with Mariia Molchanova in an atomweight submission grappling matchup at ONE Fight Night 4: Abbasov vs. Lee on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, and she believes that her years of experience will help her in ways that her opponent is unprepared for.

“I don't think she's going to be aware if I would take her back, if I was to stand up, or if I want to just go for an exchange. I think it'd be a little new to her. I think, for her art, she's probably just good at ripping stuff. But she doesn't really have the mechanics – the finishing mechanics – to really know how to really work a submission,” Kelly said.

“Watching her try to do armbars, she just pulls on the arm. It looks tight, but, you know, if you go against someone that knows what they're doing, they're using different details on an armbar and finishing the right way. I'm going to say [our fight will last] under two minutes. I'm just giving her an extra minute to be nice. Hopefully, she engages with me, so it doesn't drag out.”

The grappling ace earned her Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) black belt in 2020 from Karel “Silver Fox” Pravec. With 19 victories to her name, Kelly has demonstrated her talents on the mat time and time again.

She has been working on areas where she believes her opponent will flourish in their upcoming match, including takedowns. Molchanova is a Sambo World Champion, so Kelly will need to be on her guard throughout the 10-minute tussle.

“I have been working on a lot of defenses for this one, too, so I can stay comfortable if I'm in a bad position with her. I know she might be good at certain things. But I think I'm confident and comfortable to the point where if she tries to give me an armbar or something, I'm going to be better than her and be 10 steps ahead,” she said.
