outh and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo has praised the Indonesian contingent for fulfilling the country’s gold medal target at the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, China.
“I would like to appreciate and say many thanks to all of the Indonesia teams, athletes, officials and coaches because the achievements are significant,’’ Dito said on Friday.
As of Friday, Indonesia ranked seventh in the overall standing with 19 gold, 17 silver and 26 bronze medals.
The initial target was to finish in the top 10 and bring home 19 gold, 23 silver and 25 bronze medals.
Dito said he expected the achievement would drive the Indonesian team to exceed the target on the final day of competition on Saturday. He also thanked Angela Tanoesoedibjo, Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesia contingent, for her performance.
Angela is also the deputy tourism and creative economy minister, and daughter of tycoon and Perindo party chief Hary Tanoesoedibjo.
With 19 gold medals, Indonesia is one step ahead of India, which currently holds 18 gold medals and Malaysia, with seven gold medals.
Meanwhile, Korea, Uzbekistan, and Thailand hold 20 gold medals each. China is still in first position with a total of 157 gold medals.
Coordinating Human and Culture Development Minister Muhadjir Effendy said he hoped Indonesia could maintain its position in the top 10 and that he would make sure the athletes received decent bonuses to acknowledge their success.
“This achievement needs to be appreciated because our athletes have fought hard to raise Indonesia’s name,” said Muhadjir.
