The Indonesian national soccer team’s Group C World Cup qualifying match against Saudi Arabia on Thursday ended in a 1-1 draw.
Winger Ragnar Oratmangoen scored Indonesia’s only goal in the 19th minute of the evening match, which was played at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Ragnar’s left-footed shot on target was deflected off the foot of Indonesian defender Mechelen Sandy Walsh. But that did not stop the ball from flying into the Saudi side’s net.
Saudi Arabia midfielder Musab Aljuwayr equalized the score right before half-time with a shot deflected by Indonesian defender Calvin Verdonk that nonetheless got past Indonesian goalkeeper Maarten Paes.
Saudi Arabia had the chance to score a winning goal with a penalty kick in the 79th minute, but Saudi captain Salem Al-Dawsari’s shot was blocked by Maarten.
The Dutch-born keeper also held off other attempts from Saudi Arabia to pull ahead, defending the 1-1 score to the final whistle.
