Governor-elect and deputy governor-elect, Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno, were voted for by the majority of voters in all five municipalities and the Thousand Islands regency, according to a vote count by the Jakarta General Elections Commission’s (KPU Jakarta) offices on Thursday.
Following widespread complaints that thousands of people were denied an opportunity to cast legitimate votes in the first round of the Jakarta gubernatorial election, the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD) has added more than 156,000 names to the provisional voter list (DPS) for the second round of the election, slated for April 19.
Incumbent Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and his deputy, Djarot Saiful Hidayat, are set to recruit and deploy city workers called “Red Troops” to renovate houses of poor residents and mosques once their campaign period is finished.
