"Everything we're witnessing over the last 12 months is indicating that the international global system is on the brink of collapse," Amnesty's secretary general Agnes Callamard told AFP as the group released its annual "State of the World's Human Rights" report.
In a press conference earlier this week, the human rights group said that throughout the administration of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, Indonesia had not only failed to deal with past atrocities, but also promoted impunity.
AII said the ruling could bring fresh hope for the families of the Kanjuruhan stampede victims who had demanded accountability for the tragedy, and that it could end the culture of impunity among law enforcement agencies.
In a statement issued earlier this week, the AII said although it welcomed the efforts from President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration to give reparations to the victims of 12 cases of past human rights violations in the country, the rights group said that the effort would be "futile without accountability."
