The incident surrounding the deportation of an American woman from Bali has raised uncomfortable and sensitive issues that stem from Indonesia's colonial past, juxtaposed against the contemporary issues of equality and minority.
Based on Bali Governor Circular Letter No. 2021/2020, those entering Bali by air transport are required to present a negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result for COVID-19, at the latest two days prior to the date of departure. Those using other modes of transportation will have to show a negative antigen rapid test result. The regulation will be in effect from Dec. 18 to Jan. 8.
The Bali provincial administration will allow hotels, restaurants and tourists destinations to hold the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebration under COVID-19 health protocols in a bid to revive the famed resort island’s tourism sector.
According to the ministry’s data, the four priority regions are Batam and Bintan Island in Riau Islands, Bandung and Cirebon city in West Java, Central Java and the agglomeration of Yogyakarta, Surakarta and Semarang (Joglosemar) and Bali.
The Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry is set to revitalize hygiene facilities in one city and eight regencies in Bali: Denpasar, Badung, Tabanan, Gianyar, Klungkung, Karangasem, Buleleng, Bangli and Jembrana.
