While initially only monitoring cars, the police will enhance ETLE coverage across Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta by installing 57 surveillance cameras in a bid to reduce traffic violations committed by motorcycle riders.
The South Jakarta District Court has rejected a pretrial motion filed by a resident against the Jakarta Police over an electronic ticket issued through the police’s Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) e-ticketing system.
Of the 642 traffic offenses caught by the cameras along Jl. Thamrin and Jl. Sudirman last week, 400 were related to disuse of safety belts, followed by 198 violations of the odd-even plate number rule and 44 cases of using phones while driving.
